        Ceres Home Wedding

Alwine and Johan got married at Alwine’s parents’ home in Ceres. It is a beautiful old house with such a quiet but powerful presence – the type of home you walk into and feel that there are stories in the walls and in every object you see. They had a relaxed ceremony outside on the side of the street, with canapés and dinner in the garden. It was one of the first weddings I had shot where there was no formal seating – a huge trend I am now seeing a lot. People could choose to sit at a table, or at the more relaxed seating area under the trees.

This wedding was pulled together by a group of girls and women, most of whom know Alwine personally. I can’t imagine her doing it any other way. She wanted it to feel personal, and she wanted her photos to look like they were taken by a friend. As I am her friend, it was natural for both me and Alwine – and it worked easily and wonderfully. Alwine’s aunt made her incredible wedding skirt and top. One of her besties, Alet, did her makeup and hair. (Have you ever seen such a beautiful face?) Jomeri did the amazing flowers AND second shot with me (yes, she is a machine). Elizabeth from Bonton did the co-ordination and as always made sure everything ran seamlessly, while still maintaining an incredibly relaxed flow to the day.

Both Alwine and Johan grew up with parents who obviously listened to the best music every day, all day. The music was insane. This was one of my favourite weddings to shoot.
